Foy Streetman the owner of Gorilla World and his wife Betty got their start by opening a Mercantile Store in a small town in West Texas. In their next business venture, they started a company that manufactured ladies’ sportswear in Abilene, Texas. Eventually, the business was sold.
As the family grew to include two sons and two daughters, the Streetmans ran a handbag manufacturing company in New Orleans, which was sold after a few years.
Next, Foy went to work with Niver Western Wear from Fort Worth, Texas. He led the shirt division in Sherman, Texas. Eventually, he bought the business and merged with WesternBelt Manufacturing company in Chickasha, OK and the family relocated there.
In 1980, Betty started a ladies' fashion store. It was eventually sold. The oil boom of this period attracted Foy, who had learned the oil and gas business from his father, a contract operator in West Texas.
